LADWP Developing Grid-Scale Energy-Storage Project For Wind And Solar

The Los Angeles Division of Water and Energy (LADWP) and China-primarily based BYD Ltd. Corp. have fashioned a partnership aimed toward developing a grid-scale battery venture for renewable energy storage.

The storage unit, which may have a capacity between 5 MW and 10 MW, will probably be positioned at LADWP's Pine Tree Wind Farm within the Tehachapi Mountains. The challenge will improve LADWP's energy reliability and stability the combination of wind and solar power into the utility's technology portfolio.

LADWP notes that, thus far, business and residential prospects have installed over 20 MW of photo voltaic photovoltaic capability through the department’s Solar Incentive Program.
